Terms of Use

These are the rules for using Liminal Cosmos, an app made by Different Productions, LLC ("we", "us"). By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Your license to use the app

Apple's standard license agreement for apps covers your right to install and use Liminal Cosmos on your Apple devices. You can read it at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. These Terms add the rules for our service: Pro, forecasts, sightings and the assistant.

2. The app is free. Pro is optional.

You can use Liminal Cosmos without paying. Liminal Cosmos Pro is a subscription that unlocks extra features. The app shows what Pro includes before you buy.

• Plans. Pro is sold for one month or for one year. The app shows the price in your currency before you buy.
• Free trial. If a free trial is offered to you, the first week costs nothing. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your plan starts and Apple charges you the price shown.
• Renewal. Pro renews by itself, for the same length of time, until you cancel. Apple charges your Apple Account in the 24 hours before each new period starts.
• Canceling. You can cancel at any time. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Or in the app open Settings, Subscription, Manage Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. You keep Pro until the end of the time you have paid for.
• Deleting is not canceling. Deleting the app, or deleting your Liminal Cosmos account, does not cancel Pro. Only canceling with Apple does.
• Refunds. Apple takes every payment and decides every refund. Ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot give refunds ourselves.
• No sign-in needed. You can buy Pro without signing in. Buying and Restore Purchases open Apple's sheet directly.
• Your other devices. Pro works on every device signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account. On the other device, tap Restore Purchases. You do not need an account with us.
• Changes to Pro. We may add to, change or remove Pro features. If the price changes, Apple tells you first and you can cancel.

3. A forecast is not a promise

Liminal Cosmos shows space weather and aurora forecasts from NOAA, NASA and others, and cloud from Apple Weather. The aurora and the weather are hard to predict. Anything the app says about tonight, the coming nights or the best months can be wrong, late or missing.

• We do not promise you will see the aurora.
• Do not book or cancel travel because of the app alone.
• Do not rely on the app for your safety, or to protect equipment, power, radio or flights. Use official sources for those.
• Alerts depend on Apple's notification service and your phone's settings. They can arrive late or not at all.

4. The assistant

The assistant writes its answers on your iPhone with Apple Intelligence. Its answers can be wrong or incomplete. Check anything that matters.

5. Your account

You do not need to sign in to use the app, to get alerts or to buy Pro. Sign in with Apple is optional. You find it in Settings, Account. You need it only to report an aurora sighting, to vote on or report someone's photo, and to keep your assistant chats. If you sign in, your Pro and your alerts are carried to your account.

If you turn on alerts, or buy or restore Pro, on a phone that is not signed in, the app makes a device account for that phone. It has no name and no email. The Privacy Policy says what is tied to it.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete your account at any time in Settings, Account, Delete Account.

6. Sightings and photos you post

When you report a sighting or add a photo, other people using the app can see it. They see your answer, a rough place, the time and your photo. They never see your name or your account.

What stays yours. Your photos remain yours. You give us permission to store them and show them in the app, and to use your reports, with no name attached, to check and improve forecasts. Reports are kept after you delete your account, with the link to you removed. Your photos are deleted with your account.

The rules. Post only:

• what you really see, when and where you see it;
• photos you took yourself, of the sky.

Do not post nudity, violence, hate, threats, ads, anything illegal, other people's work, or a photo of a person who has not agreed to it. Do not post false reports on purpose.

Reporting and removal. Every photo has a Report button. A photo is hidden for everyone once two people report it, and we then look at it. You can also block a person, which hides everything they post from you. We may hide or remove any report or photo, and we may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. 7. Fair use of the app

Do not copy, take apart, overload or scrape the app or our server. Do not use the app to break the law or to harm other people.

8. Where the data comes from

Space weather comes from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center and NASA. Past storm records come from GFZ Potsdam. Ground magnetic readings come from the USGS. Cloud comes from Apple Weather. Maps and places come from Apple Maps. Those names and marks belong to their owners. Liminal Cosmos is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them.

9. What we own

The app, its design and our own words and pictures belong to Different Productions, LLC. Data from others belongs to its sources.

10. No warranty, and limits on what we owe

The app is provided "as is", with no warranty of any kind. As far as the law allows, Different Productions, LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for any decision made because of what the app showed. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer.

11. Changes, and ending the service

We may change the app or these Terms. When we change the Terms we update the date at the top. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept it. We may stop offering the app. If that happens, cancel Pro with Apple so you are not charged again.

12. Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States.
